Director of Retail Operations

Matchaful offers sustainable Japanese matcha and active botanical nutrition. We currently have (8) cafe locations in NYC, and we are growing. We are passionate about leading the matcha movement in a sustainable, elevated and respectable way.

Making matcha is all about the highest level of integrity, recipe mastery, and the energy to showcase your creations. We are looking for a caring and diligent Director of Retail Operations to join our growing team and lead the growth of our retail presence.

As Matchaful’s Director of Retail Operations, you'll be responsible for managing all aspects of the café business operations. The Director pays close attention to the daily finances, operations, and people of all the stores they look after. They must ensure the right assignment of duties to all store managers and make sure that managers and staff are operating in accordance with company standards. They must also ensure that customers are satisfied with our exceptional products and services and report important information to the CEO on a timely basis. At the same time, the Director should also pay attention to the career development and culture of staff in all locations, and provide them with work-related advice and train them accordingly. The main purpose of this role is to have all Matchaful cafés operating smoothly and efficiently, in turn improving the profitability and success of our café business. 


The Director of Store Operations oversees the Operations and Sourcing Manager, General Manager, Hiring Manager, Training Manager, and Store Leads in NYC, as well as any other café management roles for the company. 

Job Requirements: 

  • 5-10 years of experience managing restaurant or café groups with multiple locations 
  • 5-10 years of experience managing restaurant or café teams 
  • 5+ years of experience with restaurant management software and finances. Experience with Marketman and Square is preferred
  • Successful track record of opening new stores in NYC and scaling a café or restaurant · business 
  • Experience with specialty coffee and/or tea preferred

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Drive Sales and Profitability, Operational Improvements

  • Help to create and execute plans for store teams to achieve monthly sales goals 
  • Fully responsible for the overall business performance of all Matchaful cafes
  • Fully responsible for successful leadership, organizational plans, customer service, and outstanding execution of all field operations standards and strategies, consistently across all stores
  • Ensure that trends of underperformance are formally addressed, with clear and documented performance improvement plans
  • Continually measure and provide suggestions for improving operational performances
  • Supervise regular management performance of all locations and evaluate them routinely for growth and improvement
  • Help develop policies and procedures to ensure the achievement of goals, including but not limited to excellence of customer services, facility cleanliness, and maintenance of daily practices
  • Ensures that operational and training standards of multi-locations are consistently enforced and executed by co-workers
  • Maximize sales, transactions and profits of the assigned stores
  • Work closely with senior management to monitor and control food and labor costs
  • Ensure that all assigned stores are in compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations
  • React quickly to store emergencies and notify the right people to arrange crisis management when needed
  • Take responsibilities and initiatives on all assigned stores’ repair and maintenance
  • Oversee company-wide inventory management and processes
  • Ensure all ingredients are inspected for quality when receiving at each delivery time
  • Review and act upon customers’ requests, complaints and inquiries; Be proactive to find a solution
  • Execute and maintain all current and on-going Marketing promotions, materials and tools

People Development, Retention of Top Talents and Team Building

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Effectively manage, lead, and set expectations to assure quality and productivity are in line with expectations to achieve company goals
  • Provide strong team leadership and a collaborative approach to working with the senior leadership team
  • Document, review, and measure individual manager performance through the formal employee review process
  • Fully responsible for the staffing plan, execution and related training needs of the existing stores and new stores 
  • Oversee Hiring Manager and monitor the full hiring process per the company’s policies, which includes, but not limited to, Pre-screening, Interviews, Evaluations, Reference Checks, Hiring Decisions and Orientations
  • Inspire store staff to meet monthly store goals and KPIs
  • Ensure that all staff follow company operating standards, and take actions to correct any non-compliance
  • Lead weekly Management Meetings. It is your responsibility to attend and lead every meeting. If you miss two consecutive meetings without notice or approval by your direct superior, some disciplinary action will be taken, up to demotion.
  • Provide feedback and advice on scheduling to scheduling managers, ensuring stores are properly staffed and all new staff are properly trained
  • Prep and perform accurate yearly staff performance/wage reviews on time

New Project Development

  • As requested, assist with new store development, including construction, equipment procurement, and plans for grand opening
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between cross-functional teams involved in new store openings
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure successful and timely store openings
  • Ensure cost-effective implementation of new stores and new store initiatives
  • Implement standardized processes and procedures for new store development projects, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the region.

Financial Management

  • Oversee store finances and COGS through Marketman on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Establish financial goals for the assigned stores and encourage your staff to work towards the goals
  • Develop and manage regional budgets, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance indicators, such as revenue, expenses, and profitability, for each store within the region
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the region, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Evaluate and approve regional expenditures, ensuring compliance with company policies and financial guidelines
  • Review and analyze store-level financial statements, identifying areas of improvement and implementing corrective actions when necessary
  • Work closely with store managers to optimize sales, manage costs, and improve overall financial performance

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position. As we are in the industry of food retail and service, shift time and length will be assigned to best serve our customers. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts can be expected.

Digital Marketing Manager

Job Overview:

The Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing marketing campaigns that promote the cafés, e-commerce and supports overall business goals. This role requires expertise in digital channels, analytics, and customer acquisition strategies, aimed at driving brand awareness, engagement, and conversion through a range of online platforms. The ideal candidate will be creative, organized, and proficient in digital marketing tools, with a passion for growing brand awareness and engaging audiences online.

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign Management:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive digital marketing strategies to increase online presence and drive business growth across platforms like Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and others.
  • Create and manage campaigns across various channels (SEO, PPC, email marketing, social media, display advertising, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the brand team to plan for compelling digital content, including blogs, social media posts, email newsletters, and web copy.
  • Monitor and optimize campaigns to ensure they meet business objectives (e.g., lead generation, brand awareness, engagement).
  • Stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in digital marketing.
  • Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with company goals.

Digital Management:

  • Help maintain and update the company website and social media channels with fresh, engaging content.
  • Assist team with content calendar ideation and ensure content aligns with overall marketing strategy.
  • Ensure all digital channels and websites have up to date information for both café and e-commerce. 
  • Management of Google My Business and other online presence for café locations, including but not limited to Google, Yelp, Classpass, Apple Maps, etc.
  • Leverage CRM tools to nurture leads and convert prospects into customers.
  • Manage cafe delivery platforms (Square, Ubereats, Doordash, etc.) marketing and advertising.  

Email Marketing:

  • Manage the planning, creation, and execution of email marketing campaigns (newsletters, promotional emails, automations, etc.) with support from the brand team on content.
  • Segment email lists to ensure targeted, personalized communications.
  • Analyze email performance and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist in A/B testing of campaigns, landing pages, and email content to optimize performance.
  • Optimize current email automations and create additional flows within email marketing platforms for both cafés and e-commerce. 

Social Media Marketing and Advertising:

  • Develop, implement, and manage social media strategies – including both organic and paid – across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.). Work closely with the brand team to plan for content creation.
  • Monitor and engage with followers, respond to comments, and grow brand presence.
  • Analyze social media performance and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyze social media trends, competitor activity, and industry news to inform strategy.

Data, Analytics & SEO:

Use data-driven insights to measure and report on the performance of digital marketing campaigns (traffic, leads, conversions, ROI).

Utilize analytics tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and email marketing metrics to adjust strategies accordingly.

Manage on-page and off-page SEO to improve organic search rankings and drive traffic.

  • Collaboration & Reporting:
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., brand, cafe, e-comm, sales, and product) to ensure alignment on digital marketing efforts.
  • Manage and direct external ad agency for Google Ads, report monthly results to the internal team.
  • Continuously assess how individual campaigns and various platforms are performing in order to suggest where resources and/or budget should be allocated to improve overall digital marketing ROI.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on campaign performance, social media activity, and website analytics.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 2-5 years of experience in digital marketing, social media, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing platforms (e.g., Square, Shopify, Klaviyo, Google Ads, Facebook Ads Manager, email marketing tools).
  • Strong understanding of SEO, SEM, and web analytics (Google Analytics, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Experience with social media platforms, planning, and scheduling tools.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and website content management systems (e.g., Shopify, Square) is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Google and/or Social Media Advertising.
  • Experience with Canva, Figma, or other design tools.

Culinary Production Leader

Location: Matchaful Culinary Lab – Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

Our Matchaful Culinary Lab in Clinton Hill serves as our dedicated culinary production facility and a signature Matchaful Café. It is the heart of our in-house food production, where we craft our signature latte concentrates—including Ginger Zing, Secret Garden, and Cacao Dream—alongside a growing selection of plant-based and gluten-free pastries, soft serve, and breakfast parfaits.

This space is designed for innovation, experimentation, and nourishment, and we are looking for a Culinary Production Leader to join our team and help bring our products to life.

Position Overview

As a Culinary Production Leader, you will report to the Culinary Creator & Commissary and Production Manager and play a vital role in our kitchen operations. You will be responsible for the manufacturing, packing, and quality control of our grab-and-go pastries and food items, ensuring efficient and high-quality production.

You should have large-scale food production experience, a strong food safety background, and be comfortable in a fast-paced, startup environment where adaptability is key. 

There are exciting growth opportunities as we continue to expand our culinary offerings and café footprint.

Responsibilities

Food Production & Quality Control

  • Prepare large-batch food and baked goods according to Matchaful’s high standards.
  • Ensure quality control for all baked goods and in-house food items.
  • Assist in recipe execution, testing, and process improvements.
  • Maintain detailed recordkeeping for production events, food safety, and quality control.
  • Assist with product development, testing, and optimization of culinary processes.
  • Track and monitor production targets closely with Commissary Manager

Kitchen & Facility Management

  • Maintain cleanliness of the facility, ensuring all storage and production areas are organized.
  • Sanitize work surfaces and equipment to meet food safety standards.
  • Assist with end-of-month inventory, invoicing, and tracking production metrics.
  • Support with receiving and organizing inventory, ensuring accurate order fulfillment.
  • Wash dishes, sweep & mop floors, and handle recycling/trash removal.

Operations & Team Collaboration

  • Create daily production task lists and delegate tasks to the prep team.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to culinary prep team members and help with their development and growth
  • Provide process improvements to improve hourly labor and production targets 
  • Run production events in Marketman to ensure accuracy and track orders.
  • Pack orders and manage labeling for all products.
  • Assist with moving supplies, receiving shipments, and using pallet jacks.
  • Communicate professionally with vendors, employees, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a food manufacturing facility or similar environment.
  • NYC Food Handler’s License (Required).
  • Strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable operating a fully loaded pallet jack and handling heavy loads.
  • Extreme cleanliness and strong understanding of food safety protocols.
  • Food safety certifications such as HACCP or SQF (preferred but not required).
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

STORE LEAD

Assistant Store Lead

Hudson Yards Cafe, NYC

Hourly wage: $20 hourly +tips

As Matchaful’s Assistant Store Lead, you will be responsible for leading the daily operations, people, and sales initiatives at our Hudson Yards location. You will ensure the highest level of quality for our incredible matcha-based wellness drinks and food, maintain a pristine, aesthetically amazing, and organized environment, and uphold the highest level of customer service—all while forging unique connections with our staff and our guests.

PREP CHEF

Matchaful Culinary Lab, Clinton Hill, Brooklyn NYC

$18-22/hr

Matchaful offers sustainable Japanese matcha and active botanical nutrition. We currently have (6) cafe locations in NYC, and we’re expanding this summer into Brooklyn! Our small team is passionate about leading the plant-based matcha + food movement in a sustainable, elevated and respectable way.

The Matchaful Culinary Lab in Clinton Hill will be the largest space we've been in yet, and it will feature our first dedicated culinary production facility as well as our signature Matchaful Café. At Matchaful, we make all of our concentrates for our creative lattes- such as the beloved ginger zing, secret garden, and cacao dream - in our very own kitchen. Over the past few years, we’ve also expanded our plant-based, gluten-free offerings to include a yuzu donut, vegan soft serve, matcha sunflower butter oats, and matcha sesame noodles…to name a few. Matchaful’s Grain-Free Granola that is now sold in grocery stores was actually developed in our café kitchen. The Matchaful Culinary Lab will be a space for innovation, experimentation, and nourishment! We can’t wait to give our loyal community a window into what we’re doing behind the scenes. 

As Matchaful’s Prep Chef, you will be responsible for the preparation of our in-house food offerings, cleaning and organizing the space, and working directly under our Head Chef and Culinary Manager.

About the Prep Chef role: 

  • 3-4 days/week minimum commitment
  • Prepare food to meet orders for all cafés daily 
  • Build prep kits for kitchen and set up production for success

As Matchaful’s Matcharista, you'll be responsible for creating our incredible matcha-based wellness items, maintaining a pristine (and aesthetically amazing) environment, and upholding the highest level of service—all while forging unique connections with our customers.

***We are a growing company, many opportunities exist as Matchaful expands our cafe footprint this year.

3 days/week minimum commitment. Ideally would be able to commit to working 4-5 days per week at any location

Starting Pay: $16.50/hr + tips. Increases to $17 with a Food Protection Certificate, which must be obtained within 30 days

About You:

  • Emotionally mature
  • Care about matcha and how it's respectfully made
  • Extreme care for the café space
  • Excellent communication skills and customer connection
  • Pristine level of organization
  • Incredible attention to detail


Requirements:

  • 1-2+ years of hospitality experience
  • You can lift up to 50 lbs
  • Wellness background | major plus
  • Food handles permit | major plus
